Background Painters

As a background painter or “matte painter,” one is responsible for creating backgrounds for animated and live-action films. We may create an entire matte painting, such as a village or planet where animation or live action occurs in only a few spots. All of which requires a strong sense of compositing, design, color, and proportioning design backgrounds so characters and objects can live in and move through in a natural manner. This requires advanced skills in developing 2D and 3D backgrounds.

 

Software used include Maya, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
